Casa Vicens Gaudí
The Casa Vicens was Gaudí's first house and his first major commission, the starting point for everything else. It has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2005. It was built between 1883 and 1885 at the request of Manuel Vicens, and it is one of the earliest works of Modernism: it already foreshadows what Gaudí would do later, within the aesthetic change that swept through 19th-century Europe. It was originally designed as a summer house with a garden, and the geometric shapes and decoration, taken from the plants in the surrounding area, are both inside and outside.
