Jardins Artigas: The garden that Gaudí left in the Pyrenees
Ratings collected by Tiqets
There's a Gaudí garden in the Pyrenees, and it's been there for over a century, yet almost no one knows about it. It's located in La Pobla de Lillet, and the story of how it got there explains the rest. At the beginning of the 20th century, Eusebi Güell, the industrialist who financed half of the architect's work, had a coal mine in the Catllaràs mountain and wanted a place to house engineers and workers. He called Gaudí, and from that commission, these gardens were created. Inside, you'll find his usual vocabulary: the "trencadís," which anyone who has been to Park Güell will recognize immediately, and the shapes taken from the surrounding landscape. You'll find fountains, benches, railings, and bridges that cross the river, all integrated into the mountain's vegetation. It's the most peaceful way to experience Gaudí that exists: without queues, without time slots, and without people in front of the photo.
