4-hour private tour: From the Sagrada Familia to the Roman necropolis of La Vila de Madrid
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
BarcelonaTwo thousand years of Barcelona in four hours on foot, with a private guide, starting with the newest building and ending with the oldest. It begins at the Sagrada Família, viewed from the outside, and then takes the metro (included) to Passeig de Gràcia. There you'll find Casa Batlló, Casa Amatller, and Casa Lleó Morera, three consecutive facades and three different ways of understanding Modernism. Next, the old town, and here's what sets this tour apart from others: it doesn't just stop at the cathedral. It passes by the Roman wall, the Temple of Augustus hidden in a courtyard, Plaça de Sant Felip Neri with the marks of the Spanish Civil War, the Pont del Bisbe (Bishop's Bridge), Plaça del Rei, Sant Jaume, Plaça Reial with Gaudí's lampposts, La Rambla, and La Boqueria market. The tour concludes at the Roman burial road in Plaça de la Vila de Madrid, with the tombs of Barcino in view. Along the way, you'll encounter Santa Eulàlia, the Jewish Quarter (El Call), George Orwell, and Catalan traditions. Because it's a private tour, the pace and topics are adjusted to the group. Entrance fees to the monuments are not included.

Sagrada Família, Barcelona
Avinguda de Gaudí, 2, Eixample, 08025 Barcelona, in front of the KFC restaurant.
Sagrada Família
The tour begins at the Sagrada Família, designed by Antoni Gaudí and under construction since 1882. From the street, you can see the facades, adorned with symbolic sculptures, and the towers that define Barcelona's skyline. The guide introduces Gaudí's working methods and the history of the temple.
Metropolitan Sagrada Família
The short metro ride with the guide, which is included in the price, also provides a welcome break. It takes you from Gaudí's temple to the modernist avenue.
Passeig de Gràcia
The Passeig de Gràcia was the street where the city's bourgeoisie settled, and today it combines luxury shops with the best architecture in Barcelona. As you walk along it, the guide explains how it transformed and what made it one of the streets with the most impressive architecture in Europe.
Casa Batlló
Two of the large buildings on Passeig de Gràcia. The Casa Batlló, by Antoni Gaudí, with its curved shapes and colors inspired by nature. Next to it, the Casa Amatller, much more angular and with a Northern European feel. Together, they show how varied Modernism was in Barcelona.
Passeig de Gràcia
The Casa Lleó Morera, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, is one of the most elaborate examples of Catalan Modernism: it features sculptures everywhere, balconies, and a decoration that showcases the craftsmanship of the workshops of the early 20th century.
Plaça de Catalunya
Arrival at Plaça de Catalunya, where the old city meets the Eixample district, and where the Gothic Quarter begins. Here, the guide explains the origins of Barcelona and the importance of the old town, to help you understand what comes next.
El Beso De Joan Fontcuberta
A mosaic mural, created with thousands of small photographs, depicting themes of freedom, memory, and hope. It's one of the most photographed spots in the Gothic Quarter.
Catedral de Barcelona
The Barcelona Cathedral and its square are located in the heart of the old city. It is one of the most important Gothic buildings in the city and a gateway to its medieval history.
Muralla Romana
The remains of Barcino, the Roman city upon which Barcelona was built, are located here. You can see sections of the city walls, and the exhibit explains how this fortified area defined the layout of everything that followed.
Pont del Bisbe
Stopping at one of the most photographed spots in the Gothic Quarter, the Bishop's Bridge is a neo-Gothic bridge with its own legends.
Placa Sant Felip Neri
Hidden away among narrow alleyways, Plaça de Sant Felip Neri is a peaceful square that still bears the scars of the Spanish Civil War, making it one of the most historically significant places in the old town.
Plaça Del Rei
The Plaça del Rei (King's Square) was the political center of the city and remains surrounded by Gothic buildings linked to the former royal residence of the Crown of Aragon.
MUHBA Temple d'August
The remains of the Temple of Augustus, hidden in an inner courtyard, are among the most important Roman vestiges in Barcelona. Its columns are a significant piece of Roman history.
Plaça de Sant Jaume
Barcelona's political center has been located in this area since Roman times. Today, the City Hall and the Palau de la Generalitat (the seat of the Catalan government) are still there, facing each other.
Plaça de Sant Miquel
Just a few steps away is Plaça de Sant Miquel, home to the Monument to the Castellers, which is dedicated to the Catalan human towers.
Plaça George Orwell
George Orwell Square is named after the writer who fought in Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War, and it connects the old streets with more recent history.
Placa Reial
One of Barcelona's most vibrant squares, featuring palm trees and arcades. Here you can see the lampposts designed by a young Gaudí.
La Rambla
La Rambla is the city's most famous promenade. It was once the bed of a medieval stream, and today it is Barcelona's busiest street.
Mercat de la Boqueria
One of the most well-known markets in Barcelona, offering a wide variety of fresh produce, including fruits, daily catches of fish, and a range of other products.
MUHBA Via Sepulcral Romana
The tour ends at one of the city's least well-known Roman remains: a funerary road lined with tombs from Barcino, located two thousand years below the current street level.
Pl. de la Vila de Madrid, Barcelona
It ends at this Roman necropolis, hidden in the heart of the city, offering a final glimpse into Barcelona's origins.
