Barcelona in a Day: Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and the Gothic Quarter
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
BarcelonaEight hours to see all of Barcelona, in a small group of up to 16 people, with pickup and drop-off at your accommodation. The day combines stretches by minivan and stretches on foot. You walk through the medieval streets of the Gothic Quarter and go up Montjuïc hill, from where you can take in the city and the Mediterranean coast at a glance. Then comes Passeig de Gràcia, with Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, both by Antoni Gaudí, just a few blocks from each other. The Sagrada Família is visited with skip-the-line access, and the day ends at Park Güell, also without queuing, with the mosaics and the view over the rooftops from the hillside. Eight hours are enough for the essentials of the city's architecture without having to book anything separately or juggle the schedules of three different ticket offices.

Ciutat Vella
The day begins at your hotel: the tour guide and driver will pick you up in a minivan, so it's important to provide the exact location of your accommodation. Along the way, you'll get your first panoramic view of Barcelona and pass by Plaça de Catalunya, the main square in the city center.
Parc de Montjuic
A hike up Montjuïc mountain, with the city and the coastline stretching out before you. The guide tells the story of the hill, from its ancient fortifications to the role it has played in shaping Barcelona as it is today. There's a leisurely stroll through the gardens, with stops at places that aren't usually included on typical tours.
The Montjuïc Olympic Stadium is a historic venue that...
The Montjuïc Olympic Stadium hosted the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. The stadium and the legacy of those Games remain a significant landmark in the city's sporting history.
Museo Nacional d'Arte de Cataluña
Standing in front of the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), located on the slopes of Montjuïc. The grand staircase and the dome are visible from afar, and up close, the facade stands proudly on its own.
Montjuic Castle
I walked through Montjuïc Castle, perched high on the hill, with the city on one side and the sea on the other. The fortress dates back to the 17th century and was a military stronghold before becoming what it is today.
Plaça d'Espanya
I walked through Plaça d'Espanya, one of Barcelona's most recognizable landmarks, with the Venetian Towers at the entrance to the avenue and the Magic Fountain in the background.
Las Ramblas
The route continues towards the port, passing by Las Ramblas, the Boqueria Market, the Columbus Monument, the Museum of Catalan History, and the Old Port.
Barrio Gótic
The day continues with a walking tour of the medieval old town. We stroll through the Gothic Quarter, where the history of Barcelona begins, and we discuss Catalan traditions and the origins of the city as we explore hidden corners, squares, and narrow alleyways.
Catedral de Barcelona
The route winds through a maze of narrow streets to Barcelona's Gothic Cathedral. Along the way, you'll encounter small squares that have shaped the city's history, and the Call, the old Jewish quarter, one of the oldest and best-preserved areas in the city center.
Plaça Del Rei
Stopping at Plaça del Rei, one of the most bustling spots in the old town, then moving on to Plaça Sant Jaume, with the City Hall, and finally, the oldest and most hidden corner of the city center, dating back to Roman times.
Playa de La Barceloneta
I walked along Barceloneta beach, once a fishing district and now one of the most visited areas. I also strolled through the Olympic Port, with its row of leisure establishments. There, you can see Frank Gehry's golden fish sculpture, located at the base of the Hotel Arts, next to the Gran Casino de Barcelona.
Paseo de Gracia
Back in the car, we drove through the Eixample district, the neighborhood that Ildefons Cerdà designed in 1859 to expand the city. As we drove along Passeig de Gràcia, we saw the modernist buildings, one next to the other, on the avenue where most of them are concentrated.
La Pedrera - Casa Mila
The undulating facade of Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera, is a work by Gaudí that stands out for its daring design.
Casa Batlló
The facade of Casa Batlló, with its color and intricate details, makes it one of Gaudí's most recognizable works.
Basílica de la Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia, a project of either a genius or a madman, leaves a lasting impression. You enter to see the work of Gaudí, the building that defines Barcelona. It's difficult to describe the feeling of stepping through the doors of this modernist masterpiece. The organic shapes of the structure, the light filtering through the stained glass windows, and the symbolic weight of the sculpted facade are the elements that remain with you long after you leave.

End the day with stunning views of Barcelona from...
The day ends with Barcelona at your feet, from one of the city's best-located hills: Park Güell, overlooking the Gràcia neighborhood, with its organic forms inspired by nature. There, you'll find narrow, winding paths, like rivers of lava, covered with columns shaped like trees, stalactites, and other geometric forms.
