El Capricho with a guided tour: musical railings and minaret

Forty-five minutes of guided tour of Villa Quijano, the small palace in Comillas that everyone calls "El Capricho." The meeting point is at the ticket office. Before entering, some time is dedicated to the facade, which is where Gaudí mixed styles most boldly: there are Eastern, Gothic, Islamic, Nasrid, and Mudéjar elements coexisting on the same wall, topped by a 20-meter tower-minaret. Next, the gardens are explored, and then you enter the house. Inside, you'll find carved wooden furniture, stained glass windows, and ceramics, and a detail that almost no one notices on their own: the railings feature musical motifs, because the entire building was designed with sound in mind. The guide also tells the history of the palace, which has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest, and how it was forgotten after the Spanish Civil War. The fact that it can be visited today was not a predictable outcome. The tour ends outside the monument. The reservation can be canceled without charge up to 24 hours in advance.
