Legends in Stone: The Dragon, the Bat, and the Catalan Flag on Building Facades
A two-hour tour exploring Catalan legends and how they ended up carved into the facades of the city. Once you know them, you see them everywhere. The questions that guide the tour are specific. Why is there a dragon on a rooftop? Why did a bat decide a battle? Where is the house of bones? Where does the legend of the Catalan flag come from, and what does it have to do with today's political debate? The tour goes from the Middle Ages to the architects of the turn of the century: what were Gaudí and his contemporaries reading when they designed the buildings on Passeig de Gràcia? From the floor tiles to the streetlights, everything has its story. The group is small, and the guide carries the weight of the tour. Two hours later, you leave seeing details on the facades that you hadn't noticed before. The meeting point is in front of the pharmacy at La Pedrera, on the corner.
