Modernism told by an actor: stories from the 19th century and the Sagrada Familia
A private walking tour for those who prefer to be told about the city rather than have a list of facts recited to them. The facts are there, and they are important, but they don't rule here. The story begins in the 19th century: industry transforming Barcelona, the city tearing down its walls and growing, new political ideas, a newly born artistic movement, and the life of Antoni Gaudí amidst all of that. From there emerge the characters: newly wealthy real estate developers, a tobacco planter eager to show off his money, a surgeon with a possible inferiority complex, and dragons. Many dragons. All of them left their mark on the facades that are photographed today. The tour ends at the Sagrada Família, with an explanation of the work that Gaudí left unfinished. The guide is a professional actor, and it shows in how the story is structured: he alternates between serious and humorous elements, linking the threads until the whole thing makes sense. The meeting point is in front of the Apple Store, on the corner of Passeig de Gràcia.
